The New York Jets entered 2023 with Super Bowl aspirations, but an injury to star quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the first quarter of the season opener derailed their year. The Jets turned to former first-round pick Zach Wilson with Rodgers out for the season, but the results were lackluster, partially due to a poor offensive line and inconsistent play from the defense. However, owner Woody Johnson spoke to The Post before his team’s Week 16 clash with the Washington Commanders, emphasizing his belief in head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.

New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson Backs HC Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas
In an exclusive interview, Jets owner Woody Johnson told The Post on Sunday that head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas will return for the 2024 season.
“My decision is to keep them,” said Johnson ahead of Sunday’s battle with the Washington Commanders. “I think we’ve had some very positive moves. The culture of the team is a lot better. The defense is better. The offense needs a few pieces.”
Johnson continued, “Just to keep the continuity going with Aaron and the team we’ve got. Like I said a year ago, we need a quarterback. We had a quarterback for four plays. Since then, we haven’t been able to replace him. If we have a good quarterback, it makes everybody’s job easier. It makes the line better, the receivers better.”
The Jets traded for four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers in the offseason, but the 40-year-old tore his Achilles in the season opener. Backup Zach Wilson, the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, has tossed eight touchdowns against seven picks this season. Meanwhile, fellow signal-callers Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian have faired much worse, throwing just one touchdown with six picks.
“I think if you see Aaron Rodgers right now and the impact he’s having on the team and what he’s able to do with virtually no practice, it’s amazing,” finished Johnson when talking about the team’s outlook for 2024.
New York Jets: Abysmal 2023 Season
The New York Jets enter Week 16 with a 5-9 record, the third worst in the AFC East. Head coach Robert Saleh is in his third year as the bench boss with the Jets. However, the team owns a 16-32 record with Saleh on the sidelines. Meanwhile, general manager Joe Douglas has been with the team since 2019. New York has not made the playoffs nor posted a winning season during his tenure.
