The New York Jets have had a interesting start to their 2023 season, to say the least. After trading for four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Jets felt they were right in the middle of Super Bowl contention.
Their worst nightmares became a reality when Rodgers went down for (possibly) the season just four offensive plays into their first game. Now the Jets sit at 2-3 through the first five weeks of the season and are reportedly shopping one of their own wide receivers.
The New York Jets Are Actively Shopping Wide Receiver Mecole Hardman
Mecole Hardman is currently not in the Jets’ starting lineup, and soon he might not even be on the squad.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Jets are looking at trade options for Hardman. He was inactive against the Broncos on Sunday, despite signing with the Jets as a free agent this offseason.
This past off-season, Hardman signed a one-year deal with the Jets worth $4 million.
In the light of Hardman’s relatively small contract and his lack of production so far this season, it wouldn’t take much for a team to entice him away from the Jets.
Before Hardman signed with the Jets, multiple teams were listed as great situations for the 25-year-old wide receiver. Hardman is a dangerous weapon near the line of scrimmage. His ability to run after the catch could help any offense in the NFL tremendously.
Hardman took part in only six of New York’s 59 offensive plays against his former team. The Jets ended up losing to the Chiefs 23-20.
The two-time Super Bowl winner has hinted that he wants more playing time this season:
After New York’s loss to Kansas City, Hardman reposted a message from a fan on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) about his lack of playing time in the Jets’ offense.
“USE HIM !!! @nyjets @MecoleHardman4,” the post read.
