The New York Jets are keen on further strengthening their wide receiver room, and according to rumors, they are interested in acquiring a proven veteran in free agency.
Rich Cimini, an NFL staff writer for ESPN, recently said that NFL fans should “keep an eye” on Odell Beckham Jr. as a wideout target for the New York Jets.
New York Jets Show Interest in Odell Beckham Jr.
“As for free agents, it’s a middling group that includes a fading star (Odell Beckham Jr.), a star coming off ACL surgery (Mike Williams), a steady WR3 (Tyler Boyd), and another Rodgers crony (Marquez Valdes-Scantling). Williams is reportedly visiting this week. Also keep an eye on Beckham, whom they almost signed last year,” wrote Cimini in his column.
Beckham Jr. recently confirmed he will not return to the Baltimore Ravens next season. The three-time Pro Bowl penned a goodbye to his teammates and fans on Instagram and added that he was sad that he couldn’t deliver a championship to Baltimore Ravens fans.
“Swear on everything I appreciate the Flock more than y’all could EVER imagine. Did everything I could wit the opportunities I had. Wish I got to do it big for y’all 💍. Thank you for the Vibez! To the City of Baltimore I fxck wit y’all forever FRRRR. And most importantly to my brothers over there this shxt a lifetime sentence, I love y’all! BiggestTruzzz,” posted Beckham on Monday.
Why the New York Jets have an interest in Beckham Jr.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Aaron Rodgers had a say in the New York Jets’ apparent interest in Beckham Jr., considering they almost became teammates last season.
Before joining the Baltimore Ravens last offseason, Beckham Jr. was linked to a move to the Big Apple, which was confirmed when he said on the Punch Line Podcast in January that the New York Jets was, in fact, his preferred destination.
If New York eventually trades away Allen Lazard, as he is in the trade block, replacing him with Beckham Jr. makes sense, especially if he arrives at a cheap.
After recovering from a torn ACL, Beckham Jr. is coming off a decent 2023 campaign for the Baltimore Ravens, recording 35 receptions for 565 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 14 appearances.
