The New York Jets made a trade to get their defense better last week but now his old team is reportedly calling him out. The Jets made a trade last week to acquire linebacker Haason Reddick to the team and now the Philadelphia Eagles are leaking stories that he was not as good as his numbers say.
While making an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic, Jeff McLane discussed how there were some people in the Philadelphia Eagles organization that believed Haason Reddick was stat-padding in an attempt to get a larger contract.
“I think there were some concerns about him chasing sacks. I don’t now that is what specifically Fletcher Cox was referencing, but I heard from people in the organization that Haason was one of the guys they thought was doing that.”
That would be interesting as the Eagles traded him to the New York Jets last week and he had back-to-back seasons of 10+ sacks. According to Pro Football Focus, he had 587 pass rushes last season, which was seventh of all edge rushers.
Reddick finished last season with 11 sacks and a forced fumble while making his way to his second career Pro Bowl. Is it just sour grapes by some teammates he ran the wrong way?
What should the New York Jets expect out of Haason Reddick in 2024?
Haason Reddick with this New York Jets defense has a chance to be incredible. Putting him in the mix with the likes of Jermain Johnson, Javon Kimlaw and Quinnen Williams to name just some of the defenders is going to be great. His numbers can also look more like his 2022 stats, where Haason Reddick was fourth in the Defensive Player of the Year Award voting as offensive lines can’t focus on all four players.
Pro Football Focus has him as one of the better edge rushers but not at that elite level as his 73.0 defensive grade was 43rd out of 112 edge rushers. While his numbers could also take a dip, he brings a sense of direction and stature to this New York Jets defense. With a nose for getting to the quarterback, things can only look good for him this year.
