Depending on how this season goes, it may only be a matter of time before Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams talks his way out of a rebuilding situation and onto a Super Bowl-contending roster.
Adams remains a prolific playmaker who still managed to catch 103 passes for 1,144 yards with eight touchdowns last season in Las Vegas, despite wildly inconsistent quarterback play from Aidan O’Connell, Brian Hoyer, and Jimmy Garopolo. The latter of which was not exactly one of Adams’ favorite teammates.
As the 2024 season nears, might Adams — who has been the subject of swirling trade speculation over much of the past two seasons, wind up reuniting at some point in the coming months with the quarterback he’s had the must sustained success with during his career?
Would New York Jets Trade for Davante Adams?
As Aaron Rodgers continues to try to get on the same page with top Jets receiver Garrett Wilson, there’s little question Adams could be the type of piece that puts New York over the top in the AFC East.
That’s exactly what plays out in one of Bleacher Report NFL analyst Matt Holder’s ‘wild’ scenarios for the upcoming season.
“Las Vegas has a quarterback competition between Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew II in training camp,” Holder points out for B/R. “That casts doubt on the team’s playoff chances. Seeing as neither has a strong track record in the league, it’s possible the Silver and Black stumble out of the gate this season.
“If that’s the case, it’s not out of the question for Adams to want out and reunite with Aaron Rodgers via a trade to the New York Jets ahead of the deadline. The Jets are already a potential Super Bowl LIX contender, and adding one of the best receivers in the game would only increase those odds. Rodgers and Adams were, arguably, the NFL’s top duo when they last played together in 2020 and 2021, connecting 238 times for 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns during that timeframe.”
Adams likely views the remaining years of his career as opportunities to chase Super Bowl rings, which he’ll be unlikely to do given the Raiders’ uncertain quarterback situation and the draft capital Las Vegas acquires in any trade could be used to move up to snag a potential franchise quarterback next spring.
Whether a trade like this goes down remains to be seen, but there are plenty of reasons both sides should be actively exploring it in the coming months.
