The New York Jets will have some major decisions to make with the roster on offense and defense this offseason. One name on the roster who will become a free agent is cornerback D.J. Reed.

Reed was one of the best players on the roster a season ago. He is 28 years old and could possibly earn a big contract on the open market. This past season with the Jets, he recorded 64 tackles, one sack, zero interceptions, and 11 pass deflections.
New York Jets Cornerback D.J. Reed Ranked As a Top 5 Free Agent This Offseason

The33rdteam.com listed its Top 100 free agents entering this offseason. D.J. Reed was ranked as the fifth-best free agent this offseason. Many NFL teams are going to need to sign a cornerback this offseason. Dan Pizzuta said:
“During the offseason, we pegged D.J. Reed as the league’s most underrated player heading into the 2024 season. That likely won’t be the case after the interest he’ll garner in free agency. Reed is a tough, physical corner who is always around the ball, even if that doesn’t lead to interceptions — he has 51 career passes defensed but just six interceptions.
Reed’s ability to hold up in coverage was what allowed the Jets to have their cornerbacks play sides with Sauce Gardner and still have Reed rank 28th in targets per coverage snap this season. On 96 press coverage snaps, Reed allowed just 40 yards.”
It is going to be interesting to see which NFL team decides to give him a lengthy contract if the Jets do not re-sign him this offseason. It would be great for New York to re-sign him to have that secondary locked up with Sauce Gardner and Reed with Aaron Glenn as the new Jets head coach.
The biggest decision they will have to make this offseason is not Reed. It is about whether or not they want to keep quarterback Aaron Rodgers around for the next season also.
