Aaron Rodgers is set to return to the New York Jets in 2024 after an injury in Week 1 ended his 2023 campaign prematurely. While the whole team is definitely excited about what the future holds for them, the veteran quarterback made sure to remind his teammates the expectations that they need to meet.
The Jets failed to make the playoffs this 2023, finishing with a 7-10 record for third in the AFC East. With Rodgers injured and out, Zach Wilson tried hard to take over as QB1, but he just couldn’t lead the team to consistent wins.
While Rodgers himself promised that things will be different in 2024, he understands the position that the Jets are in. During his media presser to officially close their season, the four-time MVP warned his teammates that the Jets won’t stick with them if they continue to struggle.
“We’re all going to be on the hot seat next year,” Rodgers said, per Connor Hughes of SNY TV.
Aaron Rodgers also emphasized his desire to be with the New York Jets beyond just the 2024 season. With that said, he understands the need for him to deliver to his promise and bring the franchise to the playoffs and, potentially, the Super Bowl.
“I was thinking when I got traded it was gonna be a one-year thing. Then I got to the Jets, realized how much fun I was having, and fell back in love with the game…I’d like this to be more than just next year,” Rodgers added, according to Harrison Glaser of Take Flight Media.
It’s definitely great to see Rodgers be in the right mindset moving forward. It’s really important that their leader set the tone on their approach moving forward, and he’s surely starting early.
Hopefully, the rest of the Jets got the message and use the offseason to gear up better for 2024.
Aaron Rodgers Addresses New York Jets’ Key Needs
Aaron Rodgers, nonetheless, also highlighted the need for the New York Jets to improve in the offseason. During the same presser, he pointed out that the offensive line needs to be fixed, as well as the wide receiving group.
The one-time Super Bowl winner then promised to be “around” as much as he can to help better prepare the team, particularly the offense.
If the Jets need his help in recruiting, Rodgers is also ready to do it. Everything just to help the team win.
“If he wants my help in recruiting — I’m available,” Rodgers said in a message for Jets GM Joe Douglas, per Hughes.
Exciting times are indeed ahead for the Jets. If everyone buys in like Rodgers, fans could definitely see a much-better team next season.
