The New York Jets have to protect Aaron Rodgers this season. So far, this has not gone well. In the first preseason game and in joint practices, the star quarterback is constantly under pressure. Many are wondering whether the Jets will be able to keep him upright. When asked about the offensive line, Rodgers revealed his concern level.
New York Jets Aaron Rodgers Not Concerned
Rodgers has downplayed any concerns but he also hinted that things are not going as planned.
“I don’t get concerned about things I don’t have a huge role in — yet. That might change. At some point, I might say, ‘Hey, I need the five who are going to be in there to be in there with me for a solid week,’ but I don’t think we’re at that point … because I don’t think there are five guys that have earned those spots. So, I have some patience.”
The Jets do have a lot of players injured on the offensive line. Duane Brown is still unable to practice and he is slated to be the starting left tackle. The makeshift line has done well but is missing the easy stuff. It was a key part in the latest Hard Knocks episode where head coach Robert Saleh urges his offensive line to play better.
Will They Be Able To Fix The Issues?
Getting everyone back is key but that might not be enough. We are getting a look at what happens when an injury happens to this line. Will the Jets look to upgrade via trade? Rumors have been swirling about the possibility of the Jets engaging with the Packers again in trade talks for David Bakhtiari but those are just rumors at this point. The team could look to a myriad of places to try and upgrade the line but right now, things look bleak.
The New York Jets front office probably takes a similar stance as Aaron Rodgers does. This isn’t a problem…yet. If they stumble out of the gate because of bad offensive line play, this could become a problem very quickly.
