New York Giants legend Tiki Barber was always a fan favorite. While he has retired from the league, he definitely still has loyalty to his old team. During Monday’s edition of the WFAN “Tiki and Tierney” program, Barber offered his opinions of quarterback Daniel Jones. He made a bold claim that Giants’ fans hope is true.
New York Giants Tiki Barber On Daniel Jones
Jones is coming off a career year and signing a massive contract in the offseason. There is pressure on Jones to show that last year was not a fluke. Barber is convinced and had this to say about the Giants’ signal caller.
“There’s one quarterback I would maybe take over him,” Barber said about Jones after the retired running back spoke highly of Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts. “He’s the second-best quarterback in the NFC.”
You read that right. Jones is the second-best quarterback in the whole conference only behind Jalen Hurts. He went on to say that Jones is “definitely” a top-10 NFL quarterback. This is some high praise and a wild claim for a player that has only performed for one year.
NFC Claim Isn’t Outlandish
I’ll give Barber this. The NFC is very weak right now. Trying to name the top five quarterbacks in the NFC is tough. However, putting Jones ahead of Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott, and Justin Fields is pretty bold. However, it isn’t like any of the aforementioned players have had a lot of success outside of stats and games won in the regular season. The top ten quarterback in the entire NFL argument is where you lose me. Once you add the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, Trevor Lawrence, Aaron Rodgers, and many other elite AFC quarterbacks, I don’t see how Jones is in that group.
I love the NFL offseason. It is full of people like Tiki Barber making wild claims about the team. Daniel Jones got his big contract. Now he has to prove that he can live up to it. The Giants improved their team this offseason and head coach Brian Daboll seems like the right man for head coach. If the Giants perform well again, more people might have to give Jones his flowers.
