The New York Giants have the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and wide receiver Rome Odunze can very well be selected by the Giants. Odunze played college football last season with the Washington Huskies. They made it to the college football playoff championship game before losing to the Michigan Wolverines.
Odunze is 6’3″ and weighs 215 lbs. He caught 92 passes for 1,640 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns last season and averaged 17.8 yards per catch. He also had 1,145 yards receiving during his sophomore season with Washington and also caught seven touchdowns that year.
Rome Odunze is projected to be one of the first three wide receivers off the board. However, it would be a surprise to see Odunze off the board before the Giants had the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It feels like at least one wide receiver and three or four quarterbacks will be selected before the sixth pick.
The New York Giants Can Very Well Wind Up With Rome Odunze and Michael Penix Jr. On the Same Roster Next Season
It would be interesting to see Odunze and Penix Jr. as teammates next season in the NFL just like in college with Washington. Romeo Odunze going six to the Giants would not be surprising. Michael Penix Jr. may not be getting drafted until the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft because of his injury history.
The Giants are looking at potentially drafting a quarterback as well in the draft. Daniel Jones and Drew Lock will be on the roster at the quarterback position for next season as of now. It is hard to believe that the New York Giants regime is going to rely on those two players at the position for 2024.
They are scouting and doing their due diligence on quarterbacks. If they don’t draft one in the first round, drafting one in the second round is possible. Michael Penix Jr. is talented and he would be a solid selection in the second round for New York.
Last season, he completed 65.4% of his passes for 4,903 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Michael Penix Jr. is a pocket passer and is already 23 years old. He is 6’3″ and weighs 213 lbs. Penix Jr. is a first-round talent, but his injury history has been some red flags.
That is probably why teams don’t want to take him in the first round, but someone may reach for him. Michael Penix Jr. would love to be teammates against Rome Odunze next year but don’t count on it.
