The New York Giants are 2-5 to start the season. One of the biggest issues with this team this season has been quarterback Daniel Jones. They had a bottom-five-ranked offense last season. The Giants made improvements to the roster on offense but it is still bottom-five.
Do you want to know why? It is because Daniel Jones has been horrendous and is holding this football team back. This season, he has completed 62.5% of his passes for 1,442 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions. Jones has also rushed for 184 yards on 50 carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 3.7 yards per carry.
NFL Reporter Thinks That the New York Giants Could Very Well Bench Daniel Jones Before the End Of the 2024 Season
New York Giants fans have been calling for head coach Brian Daboll to bench Daniel Jones and play Drew Lock. He did that against the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth quarter, but Daboll committed to Jones as the starter in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Matt Lombardo of substack.com thinks that there is a legit possibility that the Giants bench the former Duke Blue Devils quarterback before the end of the 2024 NFL season. Lombardo said:
“The Giants benched Daniel Jones, down 28-3 against the Eagles with 11:26 remaining, and I have to wonder if this doesn’t wind up a permanent change.
After all, New York may have the worst offense in the entire league in 2024, and that $12 million of Jones’ $23 million in 2025 is an injury guarantee which only triggers if he cannot pass an offseason physical. With 10 games remaining, there’s now a nonzero possibility that general manager Joe Schoen, head coach Brian Daboll and the Giants may have decided this is as far as the franchise can go with Jones at the helm.”
2025 NFL Draft
With the Giants possibly benching Jones before the end of the 2024 season, general manager Joe Schoen has to be doing his due diligence on finding a franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. Some of the names he will be looking at are Shedeur Sanders of Colorado, Drew Allar of Penn State, Quinn Ewers of Texas, Carson Beck of Georgia, and Cam Ward of Miami.
It will be interesting to see what happens. They need to get wide receiver Malik Nabers a true quarterback and not deal with Daniel Jones much longer at the helm.
