Patriots: Bill Belichick Absolutely Rips Jerod Mayo After Another Loss (Report)

The New England Patriots are in a tail spin.  So far they’re 1-6 through seven games and are competing for the number one overall draft pick in 2025.  New England just switched to rookie quarterback Drake Maye as their starter, and he has given the franchise some hope.

However, legendary head coach Bill Belichick couldn’t hold back after this last loss.

Bill Belichick is considered one of the main reasons for the Patriots dynasty of the 2000s and 2010s by nearly all NFL fans. The team is struggling in its first season without the legendary head coach, and it’s easy to see why.

In seven games, the team has just one win under new head coach Jerod Mayo, who was part of Belichick’s coaching staff for several years:

Belichick decided to kick the current Patriots bench boss while he was down. He took a slight shot at Mayo during a recent episode of his ‘Let’s Go‘ podcast with Maxx Crosby, Peter King, and Guest Tom Brady.

Bill Belichick Claims New England Patriots Have “Bad Coaching”

“I think when you criticize your team publicly like that, it doesn’t always go over well…ultimately I always felt that when the team played bad, that was my responsibility,” said Belichick before pointing to some interesting stats.

Belichick said that Mayo is a bad coach, claiming that the lousy play comes from “bad coaching.” He added insult to injury by comparing his team’s run defense from last season to this season. Last season, the Pats sat second, while they have dropped to just 26th this season.

Here is a look at New England’s remaining schedule:

  • Vs Jets
  • @ Titans
  • @ Bears
  • Vs Rams
  • @ Dolphins
  • Vs Colts
  • @ Cardinals
  • @ Bills
  • Vs Chargers
  • Vs Bills

There are certainly some winnable games in that stretch. It will be interesting to see if Maye is able to string together a few wins to end the season and build confidence for next season.
