The New York Giants hope they can improve their run defense after allowing the 4th-most rushing yards and the 3rd-most rushing touchdowns last season.
New York let two of their three starting defensive linemen walk. The Giants traded Leonard Williams to the Seahawks during the NFL Trade Deadline, and A’Shawn Robinson signed with the Panthers. They replaced Williams and Robinson with Brian Burns and signed a run-stopper.

New York signed Jordan Phillips to a 1-year, $1.79 million contract with a $430,000 signing bonus and $430,000 guaranteed.
Despite acquiring Burns and Phillips, the Giants still need to add more depth to their defensive line.

According to the NFL on FOX Podcast, Jer’Zhan Newton will visit New York after his pro day.
Newton played college football for Illinois and is considered one of the best defensive tackle prospects in the draft.

Newton committed to the Fighting Illini as a three-star recruit for the 2020 season.
Newton played in eight games, starting two in his true freshman season, with 23 tackles, 1.5 for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. He would redshirt after the season.
Newton played in 12 games, starting 11 in his redshirt freshman season, with 50 tackles, 3.5 for a loss, and 3.5 sacks.

Don’t be surprised if they draft a defensive tackle this year.
