New York Giants defensive legend Michael Strahan has the all-time sacks record for the New York Giants with 22.5 set in 2002. In 2022, Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt tied the record that Strahan set.
A few days ago, third-year player Kayvon Thibodeaux mentioned that he wants to break Strahan’s record every single year he is with the franchise. On Wednesday night, Michael Strahan responded to his message on Twitter:
I love the confidence and hope you get it @kayvont👍🏾
It’s a lot harder than you think💪🏾😉 https://t.co/9Qzz93rBpz

This was a very classy move by the Giants legend. They have not had elite pass-rushing over the last several years. Kayvon Thibodeaux appears to be the next great defensive edge rusher for the organization. He was the fifth overall pick in the 2022 draft out of Oregon.

During his first NFL season, he only recorded four sacks. During his second NFL season, he recorded 11.5 sacks. It was the first time in Wink Martindale’s career that he had a player go over 10 sacks in a single season.
Kayvon Thibodeaux was off to a rough start last season until the New York Giants fanbase held him accountable Thibodeaux thanked the fanbase later in the season for it when he was performing better. However, for the 2023 season, he hopes to get off to a better start and be more consistent. Shawn Bowen will be the new defensive coordinator for the Giants this season.
New York Giants Michael Strahan Is Right About the Record Being Hard To Break

It is not often that someone records over 20 sacks in a single NFL season. Myles Garrett, who the Defensive Player of the Year Award last season, only recorded 14 sacks. Quite often, a lot of these defensive linemen are getting double or triple-teamed.
Kayvon Thibodeaux will be on the opposite side of Brian Bruns this season. The odds are they will not be double-teamed in game plans. The player that worries opposing offensive lines in game plans is New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

Thibodeaux is setting the bar high for himself for years to come and to be great with the franchise. That is the kind of mindset this franchise needs moving forward. Kayvon Thibodeaux and the defense could be very good this season. Hopefully, the offense doesn’t tire them out because they had one of the worst offensive units in the NFL a season ago.
