The New York Giants own the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and can very well trade down. In the latest NFL Mock Draft provided by The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner, he has the Giants trading down with the Chicago Bears from the sixth pick to the ninth pick.
New York would acquire the ninth overall pick, the 75th pick, and a mid-round pick in 2025. In this situation, he would have the Chicago Bears drafting wide receiver Malik Nabers from LSU. With the ninth pick, he has the Giants drafting Brock Bowers, a tight end from the Georgia Bulldogs.
His reasoning for the New York Giants drafting Bowers is as follows:
“If the Giants want to be aggressive and add a young QB this year, that’s fine. However, the new guy would have the same problem Daniel Jones has: There’s not enough help. New York needs to build out the roster, and Bowers would be a great place to start.”
With Darren Waller possibly retiring and with Bowers being the top tight-end prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft, Brock Bowers would be a good choice for this franchise.
The New York Giants Will Not Trade With the Chicago Bears If Malik Nabers Is Available
The fact that the Giants would trade down with the Bears when Nabers would be available on the board at number six would be totally inept. New York would not move out of that spot. They need a true number-one wide receiver on the roster.
Malik Nabers is viewed as a top wide receiver by some. Don’t get it twisted, Brock Bowers is a very talented NFL Draft prospect. However, they would not draft him unless Nabers was off the board. Yes, the Bears do need a wide receiver help but they could just wait until the ninth selection to get Rome Odunze from Washington.
Keenan Allen is older and he was acquired in a trade from the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason. They also have D.J. Moore, but the Bears also want to add to that wide receiver room. Chicago wants to make life as easy as possible for quarterback Caleb Williams in his first season.
There are so many scenarios that the New York Giants and other NFL teams have to figure out within the next couple of weeks before the NFL Draft starts. However, if the Giants did make this move and did select Bowers, he can be one of the top tight ends in the league in a couple of years from now.
