The New York Giants have only made the playoffs twice since winning Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots. The Giants have four Super Bowl championships in franchise history, but New York has not been the same franchise ever since those championships.
A lot of the issues with New York stems from owner John Mara. A lot of New York fans think that ownership has been one of the main reasons why they have been so bad. There have been fans calling for Mara to sell the team. They finished with a 3-14 record during the 2024 NFL season. New York will have the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Mike Florio Calls Out New York Giants Owner John Mara
Mike Florio of NBC Sports called out the Giants owner after New York signed quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year deal worth $8 million and it could get up to as much as $16. Florio thought that New York should not have signed the quarterback. He felt that Mara has put too much pressure on the front office and coaching staff,
Florio said,
“The problem is the dysfunction flows from the top of the organization, and John Mara has been the common thread. I don’t know how they won two championships this century. We’re going to the league meetings in a week and a half, and I’m going to have awkward conversations as it is. But I think that the problems in the Giants come from John Mara. He’s fired guys too quickly, he’s held on to the wrong guys for too long, and I think the challenge is for him to stay true to his guns here and keep his guys.”
He feels like they should keep Daboll and Schoen around for the next two seasons or they should had gotten rid of them this offseason. The Giants will need to win more than three games this season if they both want to keep there jobs. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders will be the top two teams in the division this season,
Can New York stay out of the basement this year? The Dallas Cowboys also missed the playoffs during the 2024 season. The Giants have options with the third pick. If they do draft Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, it remains to be seen if they will start over Winston or not. New York will options in the 2025 NFL Draft, but no matter what happens, Mara needs to stop meddling into business decisions.
