The New York Giants signed quarterback Drew Lock onto their roster on Tuesday and they can still very well be in play for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields. With teams making moves at the quarterback position, it appears as if there may not be much of a market for Fields.
The Atlanta Falcons signed Kirk Cousins to their roster and that was one of the potential hot spots for him. The Pittsburgh Steelers also signed quarterback Russell Wilson. A few of the other teams that could maybe make a trade for him are the Denver Broncos, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Seattle Seahawks.
Denver appears to be drafting a quarterback. Las Vegas signed Gardner Minshew recently but they could also upgrade that position. Seattle has Geno Smith currently, but they don’t have a backup quarterback with Drew Lock leaving.
Justin Fields has one year remaining on his contract with the Chicago Bears. Fields is 25 years old and was the 11th overall pick (first-round selection) in the 2021 NFL Draft by Chicago out of Ohio State. A season ago with the Bears, he completed 61.4% of his passes for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
He also rushed for 657 yards on 124 carries and four touchdowns, along with averaging 5.3 yards per carry last season. Chicago is most likely to select quarterback Caleb Williams from the USC Trojans with the number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The New York Giants Will Maybe Have Quarterback Justin Fields As An Option But They Will Most Likely Draft a Quarterback With the Sixth Overall Selection in the 2024 NFL Draft
There are probably internal discussions between head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen about Justin Fields on the Giants. If they were to trade for Fields, he would most likely be the starter for the New York Giants in 2024.
They would be relying on him for their jobs. There have been questions about Fields being able to progress the field and read defenses probably. Justin Fields has talent but hasn’t won many games as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
If he were to perform well, it is possible they would have to give him a new contract, but they are already paying quarterback Daniel Jones. The thought of having Fields on the Giants next season is an interesting fantasy.
What the New York Giants are preparing for internally is to have a rookie quarterback on its roster for next season and draft one with either the sixth selection in the 2024 NFL Draft or moving up to grab one. Drew Lock is going to be the backup in New York next season and the rookie quarterback can be on track to be the starter.
