The New York Giants are “absolutely done with” starting quarterback Daniel Jones, according to Rich Eisen of NFL Network.
“The words I heard at the combine multiple times were buyer’s remorse,” said Eisen.
The New York Giants signed Daniel Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract just last offseason. This makes it somewhat difficult to move on from the starting quarterback, assuming the rest of the league values Jones the same way the Giants do now.
Eisen also believes the Giants should’ve given running back Saquon Barkley the money instead of Daniel Jones
In an article from Sports Illustrated, Eisen also said that he believes the Giants should’ve paid star running back Saquon Barkley last offseason instead of Daniel Jones.
“I just still don’t understand why wasn’t Saquon worth the (Christian) McCaffrey money,” he said on his show, The Rich Eisen Podcast. “The difference between we’re offering you an incredible contract of $12, $13 million a year, and they were surprised he turned that down when Christian McCaffrey makes $16 million.
“So we’re gonna sign Daniel Jones long term, and now we saw again how significant Saquon is to this offense. It’s difficult to watch him get hurt as much as he does or dinged up, I should say. And now Jones is under contract long term after a neck injury and a blown out knee.”
In the same Sports Illustrated article, New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux also said he felt like Barkley should’ve been the first to get paid by the organization.
“Talking about the year we won the playoff game. For me, and for the integrity of working together, and we all believe the same things, I feel like Saquon should have gotten paid first,” Thibodeaux said.
It now seems as if Barkley will have the opportunity to test the free agency waters this offseason as general manager Joe Schoen has ruled out the possibility of using the franchise tag on the star running back.
Many questions remain about New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones
On top of the fact that Daniel Jones is prone to injury, which didn’t allow him to finish the 2023 season, there are many unanswered questions about Jones’ ability to lead the New York Giants when healthy.
Although he did lead them to a playoff win over the Minnesota Vikings in the 2022-2023 season, Jones has been extremely inconsistent as the starter for the New York Giants. Jones performed well in that game with over 300 yards passing and two touchdowns.

Throughout his five-year NFL career Jones has only played in more than 14 games once. He has never played in every game for an NFL season. The most passing yards he’s thrown for in a season was 3,205 in 2022. He accompanied that with a 15 to five touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Jones had thrown two touchdowns and six interceptions when he went down for the year in 2023. Although he’s been close, he has never had a negative touchdown-to-interception ratio which means he was on pace for one of his least efficient seasons yet.
Jones provides a rushing upside that flourished in 2022 as he had over 700 yards on the ground along with seven rushing touchdowns. That rushing upside may be hard to keep up with if Jones continues to get injured.
Jones will have to be on the team next year due to his salary cap hit, but his future with the team remains uncertain.
