The 2024 NFL season could prove pivotal for New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.

After the Giants passed up the opportunity to trade up to select a quarterback during the 2024 NFL Draft, or stand pat and select Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy with the No. 6 overall pick, Daniel Jones may need to prove he belongs among the elite quarterbacks in the sport in order to return to New York next season.
Jones is looking to return from a torn ACL that ended his 2024 campaign after just six weeks that saw him complete 67.5 percent of his passes for 909 yards with just two touchdowns to six interceptions.
As Giants training camp nears Jones says that his rehab went off essentially without a hitch.
“At this point, I’m doing pretty much everything — running, cutting, everything I need to do,” Jones said, via Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. “I expect a lot of myself, I expect a lot of the team. and what’s going on outside that is not necessarily something that is going to drive me.”
If Jones is in fact fully healthy and able to capitalize on an improved supporting cast that includes explosive rookie receiver Malik Nabers, an emerging Wan’Dale Robinson, and second-year burner Jalin Hyatt, it would go a long way towards the 27-year-old cementing his future in North Jersey.
“When he gets back [from his injury], he’ll be the guy,” Daboll told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero earlier this offseason, dismissing any notion that backup Drew Lock could emerge as the Week 1 starter.
Lock is a strong insurance policy for the Giants, should Jones suffer a setback — or new injury at some point during the 2024 season, and could be waiting in the wings should Jones falter or live up to the increased expectations that accompany an improved collection of weapons.
But, for now, it sounds like Jones is optimistic he’ll be able to get back on the field and make an impact when the Giants open training camp this month.
