The New York Giants are trying to regain some of the magic that allowed them to make a playoff run in 2022. Their coaching staff will be critical in ensuring they stay competitive in a tough NFC East.
However, their plans to return to playoff football might hit a roadblock after one of their coaches got connected to another position in the west coast.
New York Giants’ Mike Kafka gunning for Seahawks job

The head coaching search for the Seattle Seahawks continues after Detroit Lions’ Ben Johnson decided to stay with the team for another crack at the Super Bowl. With two interviews with the organization under his belt, he’s one of the favorites to land the job.
Dan Benton of Giants Wire wrote about the other candidates Kafka would have to beat for the job:
In addition to Kafka, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike McDonald, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn are also being considered for the job.
Kafka is a terrific offensive mind who helped a lacking New York Giants team get a more reasonable 6-11 record despite the challenges they faced in quarterback. He’s credited for turning Tommy DeVito into one of the most interesting stories of the NFL season.
He has tough competition for the job, but he can further show off his head coaching chops in the 2024 Shrine Bowl.
Cap penalty biggest reason to keep Daniel Jones

Everyone seemingly agrees that Daniel Jones’ days with the Giants are numbered after his disappointing 2023 season. The team has the sixth overall pick and may look at picking a QB to replace him.
It may be tempting for disgruntled New York Giants fans to call for his cut, but Bleacher Report’s Tyler Conway revealed the reason why the team must start Jones in the 2024 season:
New York can’t cut Jones this offseason unless the team wants to eat $69.3 million in dead money. It makes far more sense to keep him around—even as a temporary stopgap—for the 2024 season and then move on in the spring of 2025 when the cost will be minimal in comparison.
The New York Giants can look at other ways to eventually get Jones’ salary off their books, but they cannot afford to rebuild the team with such a penalty. Fans will have to make do with watching Jones on the sidelines for at least one more season.
