The New York Giants own the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. On Thursday, general manager Joe Schoen met with the media and mentioned how surprised he was about teams wanting to trade up to the number six pick and there could be lots of reasons as to why this could be the case.
There is not one specific need that the Giants could use with that selection. They could go, quarterback, wide receiver, or even trade up or down with it. New York is going to take a wait-and-see approach in the 2024 NFL Draft.
They could go in so many different directions because they need a lot of help on the roster. It is possible that the New York Giants could trade down to accumulate more draft capital. Which teams could they do business with to trade down in the 2024 NFL Draft if the opportunity presents itself?
The New York Giants Can Move Down From 6 to 11 With the Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings have the 11th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and they also have the 23rd pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Minnesota would be a good team to trade with because the New York Giants can also get an extra first-round selection this season from the Vikings and potentially other picks next season.
Minnesota is eyeing quarterback J.J. McCarthy from the Michigan Wolverines and it appears as if the New York Giants are not eyeing him. The quarterback they want is Drake Maye from the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Giants do need a number one wide receiver, but there is a chance that Rome Odunze or Brock Bowers is still available 11th overall for New York.
New York Jets
The New York Jets own the 10th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and there is a chance they may not wait until then to take a wide receiver. The Jets have Garrett Wilson at wide receiver, but they need another playmaker on the outside for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
It would be interesting to see if the New York Giants would do business with their rivals across the hall. The Giants would want a wide receiver like Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, or Rome Odunze, but the Jets would have to make an enticing offer in order for the Giants to move down from 6 to 10.
Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos own the 12th pick in the 2024 NFL head coach. Head coach Sean Payton wants his new franchise quarterback after getting rid of Russell Wilson in the offseason. Jarrett Stidham is not the answer and one of the names that Denver could trade for is either J.J. McCarthy or Bo Nix.
Michael Penix Jr. could also be in play for the Broncos. The New York Giants could swap the 6 and the 12, along with maybe getting an extra first pick, and cornerback Patrick Surtain II to start with also.
