Some of the best stats are the negative or awful ones. Like a losing streak or most interceptions in an NFL career. New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr just conquered one of those ‘Everest’ records when he lost in Week 9. After a close 23-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers, Carr became the first quarterback in league history to lose to 31 different teams, leaving just one team on the list: his former Las Vegas Raiders.

Derek Carr’s Record Isn’t His Only Setback
Derek Carr’s new record is another setback for the Saints that started the season hot. With a 2-0 start and a fast-paced offense, they have since lost seven in a row and sit at the bottom of the NFC South. Apart from the losses, Carr was out three games for an oblique injury, before finally being able to return in Week 9 and lose again.
If the stars align in the worst way possible, Carr could break his own record and lose to all 32 NFL teams before the season ends. The Saints are set to face the Raiders on December 29 in New Orleans, offering his former team a shot at completing his unwanted sweep. Should this happen, Carr would hold an NFL record that’s as rare as it is regrettable, highlighting the brutal competitiveness of the league.

While Derek Carr isn’t the only quarterback nearing this record—Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson are in close pursuit—Carr’s situation is distinct due to his team’s recent struggles. The Saints will try to recover for the second half of the season, also awaiting Chris Olave’s status. Carr will try to avoid further regrettable records and aim to lead his team to a better place. Fans will be waiting for that Dec. 29th matchup to see if Carr can overcome this record or if this is part of his legacy.
