In the first minutes of free agency, the New Orleans Saints restructured the contract of one of their best players. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, New Orleans replaced linebacker Demario Davis’ final year of his contract, which housed no guarantees, with a two-year, $17.25 million deal with $13.25 million guaranteed.
Last week, the Saints reportedly released wide receiver Michael Thomas, one of their other longest-tenured players. However, Thomas disputed the reports on his Twitter account.
New Orleans Saints LB Demario Davis Earns Extension
On Monday, the New Orleans Saints rewarded linebacker Demario Davis with a contract extension. More importantly, Davis now has $13.25 million in guaranteed money. The 35-year-old linebacker will likely finish his career with New Orleans, where he has spent the past six seasons.

Davis signed with the Saints in 2018 on a three-year, $24 million contract with $16 million guaranteed. He signed an extension with the NFC South club in 2020, inking a three-year, $27 million contract. Davis signed another extension in 2022 and again during the 2024 offseason.
Demario Davis: Standout with New Orleans Saints
Davis received second-team All-Pro honors last season, earning that recognition for the fifth consecutive year. He started all 17 games and collected 121 tackles, 12 TFLs, 11 QB hits, 6.5 sacks, four passes defended, and a fumble recovery. The Arkansas State product also earned a spot in the Pro Bowl.
Davis has started at least 16 games outside his rookie campaign every season. After five seasons with the New York Jets and one with the Cleveland Browns, including leading the league in solo tackles in 2017, Davis joined the New Orleans Saints in 2018. Davis had his best season in 2019, his second with the Saints. The six-foot-two linebacker tallied 111 tackles, four sacks, and an interception while earning first-team All-Pro honors. Davis will again anchor the Saints’ defense in 2024 and presumably 2025. Davis trails just Roman Harper and Cameron Jordan for most tackles in franchise history.
