The New England Patriots have been busy bringing in prospects for visits. They hosted North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye last week, and will reportedly host LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels this week. The quarterback visits were very predictable, but the Patriots have also brought in quite a few talented prospects for visits. They are also planning on bringing in some more prospects in the near future.
Top 30 visits are a very important part of the Draft process. Getting a player into the team’s environment better shows whether or not the player can be a fit for the scheme and culture.
The Patriots have been focusing quite a bit on the offensive line with their meetings, but they also have a visit scheduled with UCF receiver Javon Baker. Baker is a big outside receiver who would fill an immediate need in Foxborough. His physical presence at the “X” receiver spot could be fun to watch in 2024 and beyond. Not to mention with the complement of Patriots playmaker DeMario Douglas, there could be a new dynamic duo in the AFC East.
The main focus of New England’s offseason has been offensive tackle prospects and with good reason. The Patriots offensive line was difficult to watch in 2023. and by doing their homework on some great prospects this year, they could be set up for a great future at the position.
According to Ian Rapoport, New England hosted Notre Dame offensive tackle Blake Fisher. Fisher played right tackle across from star left tackle, Joe Alt. Fisher could definitely use some coaching, but with the proper development, may turn into a solid player for the organization. Fisher is projected to go in the later rounds, so the Patriots could get him on day two of the NFL Draft.
The Patriots are meeting with a lot of offensive linemen who are not considered immediate stars but have great athleticism and potential. New England recently hired Scott Peters as their offensive line coach, which was one of the best moves of the off-season. Peters is known for being a great coach and could prove to be valuable in the development of any prospects that are brought in.
Could the Patriots make their draft day decision in one of these meetings?
The Patriots have quite a bit of flexibility where they sit at the third overall pick. But the question is, could they make up their minds after meeting with a top quarterback? When they met with Drake Maye, it is possible that he amazed Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf. Maye has a great presence and carries himself as a future face of the franchise. If he crushed his interview, the Patriots could decide that they will do whatever it takes to secure their future star when the NFL Draft rolls around.
