The New England Patriots have reportedly been aggressively looking to upgrade their receiver room. There has been quite a bit of talk about Jacksonville Jaguars receiver, Calvin Ridley potentially joining the Patriots. Director of Scouting, Eliot Wolf has an offer on the table for Ridley and is waiting to hear back. If New England misses out on the star Jaguars receiver, they may look to a potential trade. Some names to watch are Tee Higgins, who requested a trade from the Bengals yesterday, and Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk has made it clear he is unhappy with the way he has been used in the 49ers offense, and may be on his way out.
There have been plenty of rumors coming out of New England this week, which has been quite exciting for fans of the Patriots. We have even seen New England’s number one recruiter, star player Matthew Judon, take to social media to try and get some talent in the door. He has reached out to Calvin Ridley, Marquise Brown, and even Tee Higgins, in an attempt to get them in Patriots blue this fall. Over the next couple of days, we will see if Judon can finally land a star player, and create some buzz around the team for the 2024 season.
So far in Free Agency, the Patriots haven’t done much in terms of adding more talent. They have resigned and extended plenty of their own players, which isn’t a bad thing, but they need to make some moves to better the team. Resigning all of the players that went 4-13 last year, without any external additions, would be a horrible move by Eliot Wolf and staff. Hopefully, New England can figure out a way to get some big time talent on the roster soon, so they don’t have to rely solely on the NFL Draft. If the front office is only looking to the Draft to add talent, it could be another underwhelming season in Foxboro. By only relying on incoming rookies, the Patriots organization is not approaching the 2024 off-season the way they should. The Foxboro Faithful should know more about the plans for the future as the hours go on, but for now all they can do is sit back and hope.
Is there a backup plan if New England can’t sign Calvin Ridley?
New England reportedly has made a push to sign Calvin Ridley, but many people believe he will stay in Jacksonville. If this is the case, will the Patriots go another way in terms of adding a star pass catcher? Could they look to the trade market? Many NFL insiders believe that the Patriots front office, will look to make a big time move if they can’t close the deal with Ridley. A potential trade for Tee Higgins, could set the team up for years to come with a true number one target. Not to mention, a reliable target such as Higgins, would do wonders for the development of a rookie quarterback. If the plan in Foxboro is to draft a develop their future franchise quarterback, trading for Tee Higgins would be a spectacular way to kick off the rebuild of the organization.
