The New England Patriots may be looking at a year of struggles under first-year head coach Jerod Mayo but the team continues to add in free agency. It is being reported that they are re-signing pass-rusher Josh Uche to a one-year contract that can get up to $3 million with incentives. Uche has been a solid pass-rusher since being selected out of Michigan in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft.
Uche had 18.5 sacks in his first four seasons with the New England Patriots but took a step back after an outstanding 2022 season. In 2023, he recorded 15 total tackles (eight solo, seven assisted) with 3.0 sacks and six quarterback hits. This contract allows Uche to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2024 season and gets him an opportunity to continue playing well and getting more money.
This New England Patriots team is not expected to be a contender but they are definitely building a team that is going to be a tough team to go up against.
What should we expect out of the 2024 New England Patriots?
This New England Patriots team is looking to be a tough team going forward into the 2024 season and they are making moves like they are not tanking this season. They have the third overall pick in next month’s NFL draft and have some decisions to make there. After signing veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett to a contract, the Pats theoretically do not need to draft a quarterback with their first-round pick and could select a skill position player like wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
With a first-year head coach, this team is going to play hard as they are making some smart free agency moves with players like running back Antonio Gibson and tight ends Austin Hooper and Hunter Henry. With a difficult division, expect the Patriots to be a pesty team throughout the season and be competitive.
