The New England Patriots land a Pro Bowl wide receiver

The New England Patriots made a trio of free agency signings to help quarterback Mac Jones for the 2023 season. The Patriots signed offensive tackles Riley Reiff and Calvin Anderson. They then added a top wide receiver in free agency coming off of a Super Bowl-winning season with the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Patriots are signing JuJu Smith-Schuster to a three-year deal worth $33 million. $22.5 million will be earned for Smith-Schuster’s services in the first two seasons.

Smith-Schuster was a key piece of the Chiefs’ offense last season after they lost Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. Smith-Schuster had 933 yards receiving and three touchdown receptions during the 2022 regular season. He battled injury in the playoffs and caught seven passes for 53 yards in the Super Bowl.

Smith-Schuster had a key role in the Chiefs’ win as he beat a route late in the game, and Eagles cornerback James Bradberry was called for holding. The Chiefs were able to run down the clock and kick a game-winning field goal with a few seconds left in regulation.
