A New England Patriots safety retires
The New England Patriots’ former dynasty is continuing to unravel as a long-time safety is retiring this offseason. The Patriots are making changes to the offense for Mac Jones, who will enter his third season as their quarterback this fall. The team is a far way off from the one Devin McCourty knew when he entered the NFL in 2010.
According to a statement on social media by McCourty, the former Patriots first-round pick is retiring this offseason.

McCourty was drafted by the Patriots in 2010. He has been with the team since then. McCourty will retire after 13 seasons in the NFL having won three Super Bowls for the Patriots. All three of those Super Bowls came with Tom Brady as their quarterback. Brady also retired this offseason, but Brady’s career started a decade earlier than McCourty’s in 2000.
McCourty earned second-team All-Pro honors three times in his career. He will finish with 35 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles, and 971 total tackles.
With McCourty’s abense from the secondary, the Patriots could have more incentive to extend cornerback Jonathan Jones for next season.
