New England Patriots news: It’s that time of year again. With the offseason officially in full swing, now is the time for some players to make one of the toughest decisions they’ll ever face in their lives.
For Patriots offensive linesman James Ferentz, that time has come. The 34-year-old has been around for quite some time now, and as it turns out, the two-time Super Bowl winner has decided to hang up his boots.
New England Patriots OL James Ferentz Retires
Ferentz took to Instagram on Monday to pen a lengthy and emotional statement about his decision to retire after a memorable eight-year career in the NFL:

Ferentz played just one game this past season for the Patriots. He was far from the most important player on the field, but he was a key veteran presence for the squad.
Ferentz calls time on his career after a highly successful six-season stint with the Pats, which included no less than two Super Bowl rings. Before moving to New England, the former Iowa standout spent the first two seasons of his career with the Denver Broncos.
What’s Next for Ferentz?
At this point, Ferentz is probably looking forward to spending time with his family in retirement. It would not be a complete surprise, however, if he eventually follows in the footsteps of his father, Kirk Ferentz, and heads on to the world of coaching.
Kirk Ferentz has been the head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes for more than two decades now. He’s also brought on his other son, Brian, as an assistant since 2012.
