The New England Patriots have a very important free agency coming up in March. They wish to get back to their winning ways, and to do so they need talent and veteran leadership. The perfect place for a quick fix is free agency. By attacking free agency with a goal to get better, New England will also set themselves up well for the NFL Draft in April. There are a decent amount of big names in free agency this year, and the Patriots could go a few different ways in their approach. Luckily for them, they have Matthew Judon, who year after year, attempts to recruit big time free agents to New England. Soon enough we will see the emergence of Judon taking to social media to get the Patriots some help in free agency.
One of the biggest priorities of New England should be extending a couple of their own free agents in order to solidify some of their veteran leadership. Two names that come to mind are offensive lineman Mike Onwenu and wide receiver Kendrick Bourne. Mike Onwenu should be a top priority since he has been one of the only consistently good offensive lineman on the roster. By resigning Onwenu, it is one less hole on the roster to worry about for 2024, and also keeps a talented player in New England. When it comes to Bourne, he is a great presence to have within the organization, he is a great leader and has always shown his enthusiasm for being a member of the Patriots organization. He has also made it clear in recent interviews that he wants to stay in New England for the foreseeable future, which should hold a lot of weight because of how much the Patriots have struggled in recent years. So for Bourne to stay loyal to an organization that has had quite a bit of dysfunction, it truly shows his character. New head coach Jerod Mayo should want a team full of players like Kendrick Bourne if he wants to get the culture of winning back in Foxborough.
A talented name from outside the organization is Calvin Ridley, receiver from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ridley is an incredibly talented route runner and is a great athlete. He is difficult to cover and demands attention from the opposing secondary. With the hopeful addition of a rookie quarterback in the NFL Draft, Ridley could be the reliable target that is so desperately needed in Foxborough. Adding Ridley would create a more dynamic, downfield threatening offense that has the ability to make a big play at any moment of a game. The Patriots would greatly benefit from doing what it takes to get Calvin Ridley in the building.
Another free agent from the Jacksonville Jaguars will draw quite a bit of attention in March, Josh Allen, outside linebacker or as some people refer to the position, edge. Allen is a great athlete who creates chaos for opposing offensive lines, as well as opposing quarterbacks. The addition of Allen to an already talented Patriots defense, would cause nightmares for offenses around the NFL. Having Matthew Judon rushing the quarterback from one side of the defensive line, and Josh Allen on the other side, could turn into the best pass rushing duo in the league. A defensive line that includes Matthew Judon, Christian Barmore, Keion White, and potentially Josh Allen, would create unimaginable excitement in the Foxborough Faithful.
Will New England go on a spending spree in March?
Jerod Mayo recently made comments about how New England will definitely be bringing in talented players in free agency and even went as far as saying they have cash to burn. New England fans are used to the Patriots looking for the best bargains and never giving big time money to a lot of players. With the departure of Bill Belichick, could that change? Will Mayo want to make some big splashes as his first off-season as a head coach? Robert Kraft has made it obvious that he is desperate to get back to winning, meaning he will most likely be willing to open up the checkbook in March and get some big names to Foxborough.
