Seeing a New England Patriots quarterback struggle in the NFL is a sight that some fans might still be dealing with. However, that’s the truth for Boston sports fans: the Patriots suck without Tom Brady.
Mac Jones is no longer the high-value QB that he once was, and Bailey Zappe barely even got his stuff together under center. With these options at QB, one analyst had a clear message for Jerod Mayo and the rest of the Patriots organization:
Both men had to go.
New England Patriots QB room must be blown up and rebuilt
NESN’s Keagan Stiefel didn’t mince words when it came to his thoughts on the New England Patriots. He personally believes that it’s in the team’s best interests to start fresh with another signal caller.
He was frank with his reasoning, saying that the move isn’t just for the team’s sake:
It wouldn’t just be best for the Patriots, but for the two young signal-callers, as well. Jones’ reputation around these parts is ruined, while Zappe being placed back into a backup role while trying to learn a third offense in three seasons will do nothing but hinder his development. Nathan Rourke? He’s better off in the CFL.
If you’re asking for our opinion of what New England should do, why not follow a similar path that worked out for the Commanders in 2012? Washington selected Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 pick, before turning around and taking Cousins in the fourth round. That provided insurance for their large investment that eventually had to be used. New England could select Daniels at No. 3, then take a guy like Spencer Rattler in the fourth round or Joe Milton III in the fifth.
In the 11 games Mac Jones played for the Pats, he only had 2120 passing yards and 10 TDs while gifting opponents the football 12 times. Zappe didn’t fare any better, only netting 1272 air yards and 6 TDs to go with his 9 INTs.
It’s been a rough ride for New England fans, but maybe this is payback for the dynasty they enjoyed over the past two decades.
