During Big Ten media days, Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule had high praise for the conference in which himself and his team reside.

Rhule is now taking massive amounts of heat from ESPN analyst and known SEC darling Paul Finebaum for his comments praising the Big Ten.

The original comment that sparked controversy surrounding Rhule involved him saying that the Big Ten is the best conference in football.

According to an article from On3, Rhule said that the conference is good enough to put four teams into the College Football Playoff every single year.

“I think we’ll have a lot of access to the College Football Playoff,” Rhule said Wednesday at Big Ten Media Days. “I think four teams from this league should get in every year because this is the best league. This is the NFL of college football, in my mind. It stretches from coast to coast, different time zones, different weather.

“That’s not to diminish any other league. The SEC is amazing, these other leagues are great. But the challenge in the Big Ten is going to be really difficult. Travel, weather, and great teams.”

ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum attacked Nebraska Cornhuskers HC Matt Rhule for his comments about the Big Ten

Finebaum was asked what he thought about Rhule’s comments by fellow ESPN analyst Mike Greenberg, who phrased the question by claiming Rhule said there should be four automatic bids from the Big Ten, which is not what Rhule said in his original quote.

Finebaum then attacked Rhule as a head coach, even beyond what he’s done while a member of the Big Ten. Finebaum said that Rhule should worry about making a bowl game before worrying about the “big boys.”

Paul Finebaum implores Matt Rhule to “stay in your lane.”

“Don’t worry about the big boys because you’re not one of them…You’re talking like you belong at the table with Ohio State and Georgia — you don’t…And leave the punditry to the professionals.” pic.twitter.com/UrulCPBhke

Fans fired back at Paul Finebaum for his comments about Nebraska Cornhuskers HC Matt Rhule

Finebaum’s nature as an ESPN analyst makes him controversial before he even says anything, and fans are once again attacking Finebaum for what he said on Television.

Just last week, Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin personally went on and confronted Finebaum on his own show for things he has said about Kiffin in the past.

Fans piled on Finebaum for that incident, and they are once again piling on Finebaum for his comments on Rhule, who was doing nothing more than praising the competition in his conference.

    Paul Finebaum is so annoying.

    — KJ (@PointForwardPro) July 26, 2024

Paul is upset Matt thinks 4 big ten teams can make the playoffs? Yikes 😂

    — Makar🐐 (@JaysonRamsey9) July 26, 2024

Huh. How many wins does Finebaum have?

    — Unserious Stoic (@kingsfan231) July 26, 2024

Oh no! How dare someone have confidence in their team or league that isn’t the SEC. The horror!
