The Mississippi State football fans are livid after the Bulldogs let a narrow game against the Florida Gators slip away defensively.
The Bulldogs were down by just one touchdown at one point in the third-quarter before allowing the Gators to score twice. Once the Gators started to pull away, starting quarterback Blake Shapen went down with an injury and the backup had to finish out the game.
Michael Van Buren Jr drove the offense right down the field and scored a touchdown for the Bulldogs after taking over for Shapen. While the game was still out of reach, Van Bren Jr was able to receive quality reps against a solid, but not perfect defense.
While the Bulldogs offense did not look good against the Gators until the backup was in, the Mississippi State football defense was far worse.
We are making Graham Mertz look like a superstar. Defense is hard to watch.

Mississippi State fans were upset with how great quarterback Graham Mertz looked against the lackluster Bulldogs defense. Mertz previously had recorded one touchdown and two interceptions in both of the Florida losses. Against the Bulldogs defense, however, Mertz was able to record touchdowns through the air and on the ground.
turning my tv down every time someone walks past my hotel room cause I don’t want them knowing I’m watching Florida/Mississippi State

As one Bulldogs fan stated, “Defense is hard to watch”, as Mississippi State allowed the Gators to slice through the defense. Other fans resorted to watching the game in near silence to ensure that passersby would not hear the horrors occurring.
The Gators recorded just two incompletions during the game against the Bulldogs’ defense between both quarterbacks.
Mississippi State Football Team Struggles Through Loss to Florida Gators
The Bulldogs quite frankly have been terrible defensively this season, and it has not just been in one specific category either.
Mississippi State has allowed over 400 yards of offense in all three of their losses this season allowing 116 points to be scored. The Bulldogs also allowed Eastern Kentucky to score a touchdown but won the game handily and showed signs of a cohesive defense.
The road ahead for the Bulldogs will not get any easier either, as #1 Texas and #2 Georgia are the next two games on the schedule. Both teams have elite offenses and can truly put up crazy numbers against the Bulldogs.
Many Bulldogs fans were worried and upset that a quarterback like Mertz, who has struggled in the past, looked amazing against the defense. The fans will surely be worried about what the Longhorns and the Bulldogs can do to their defense as well.
