The Mississippi State Bulldogs are hoping to rebound in 2024. After a subpar season, the team is looking to reload through the transfer portal. They already landed a quarterback out of the portal but now they have another one. Former Oregon quarterback Michael Van Buren has committed to the Bulldogs for 2024.

Mississippi State Bulldogs Land QB Michael Van Buren
Van Buren is a four-star recruit and saw the writing on the wall at Oregon. As the team was closing in on getting Dillon Gabriel, Van Buren decided to jump ship. The Mississippi State choice isn’t out of left field. New head coach Jeff Lebby recruited Van Buren when he was at Oklahoma. It seems like Van Buren wanted to go where Lebby was. Once he went to the Bulldogs, the choice was easy for the quarterback.
QB Competition?
The Bulldogs already have a commitment from former Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen. Now with Van Buren coming in, there will likely be competition for the starting job. Having too much talent is always an issue that coaches want to have. Lebby would much rather have two good quarterbacks than no quarterbacks at all. Van Buren could also sit for a year to learn the offense and then be the quarterback of the future. The SEC gets tougher next season with Texas and Oklahoma joining the conference. The Bulldogs will have to up their game if they are going to be on top of the SEC.
Jeff Lebby seems like a home run hire at this point. He is bringing in high-level recruits which is exactly what this program needs.
