Who will be the Minnesota Vikings‘ quarterback in 2024?
The Minnesota Vikings have one of the most talented rosters (on the offensive side of the ball) in the entire NFL. However, with Kirk Cousins now sporting the black and red of the Atlanta Falcons, the Vikings need a quarterback…and the club didn’t waste much time in positioning themselves to potentially acquire one as they traded the 42nd overall pick, as well as pick 188, and their second-round pick in 2025 for Houston’s 23rd pick in this month’s draft (as well as pick 232).
According to CBS Sports’ latest 2024 NFL Draft projections, the Minnesota Vikings will stay put at pick 11, where they’ll turn to 2023 Heisman Trophy finalist, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. to be their Kirk Cousins replacement.
“Penix’s stock is on the rise, and it’s easy to see why. He threw 67 touchdowns during his final two years at Washington, and he should continue to put up numbers in Minnesota with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson.”
Minnesota Vikings’ 2023 Campaign Riddled By Injuries
Ahead of the Minnesota Vikings week eight tilt against NFC North rivals, the Green Bay Packers, everything was going to plan. Kirk Cousins was firmly in the MVP conversation and the Vikings seemingly found their stride. However, it all came crashing down as Cousins tore his Achilles late in the club’s victory against the Pack.
Fast forward to this off-season, Cousins is gone as the veteran signal caller agreed to a four-year, $180 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons, leaving the Vikings with a glaring hole in an offense surrounded by talent in the form of Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson, Jordan Addison, and newly signed tailback, Aaron Jones.
