The Minnesota Vikings recently brought on Josh McCown to be the quarterbacks coach for next season and potentially beyond. This is a great addition for head coach Kevin O’Connell. Last season, McCown was the quarterbacks coach for the Carolina Panthers, but Carolina’s season didn’t go as planned.
They finished with a 2-15 record and they had the worst record in the NFL. He coached Bryce Young during his rookie season, but a lot went wrong for them last season. For the Vikings, a lot of people like the McCown signing for the Vikings on the coaching staff.

Minnesota’s future at the quarterback position is uncertain. Kirk Cousins is a free agent at 35 years old and wide receiver Justin Jefferson hopes they bring him back or he can very well want to be traded. Cousins had his season cut short due to a Torn Achilles.
Cousins last season completed 69.5% of his passes for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions. With the Vikings not sure of knowing who will be the quarterback next season, they are looking at all of their options. There is a quarterback that Josh McCown has coached before who is in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Coach Josh McCown Coached North Carolina Tar Heels Quarterback Drake Maye in High School

In 2019, McCown was an assistant coach at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Maye was the quarterback at the time. The Minnesota Vikings currently own the 11th selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. They are in need of a quarterback if they can’t re-sign Kirk Cousins.
Drake Maye is viewed as one of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft, along with Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams. Maye is projected to be a Top 5 pick in the NFL Draft. Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is looking to trade up in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Chicago Bears own the number one overall pick, the Washington Commanders own the number two overall pick, and the New England Patriots own the number three overall pick. They would need to trade up with Washington or New England in order to get Drake Maye.

Maye completed 63.3% of his passes for 3,608 yards, 24 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Those numbers don’t stand out as much as the 2022 numbers when he completed 66.2% of his passes for 4,321 yards, 38 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
This is the kind of quarterback prospect that the Vikings want to get their hands on in the future. It will be hard for Josh McCown and the Minnesota Vikings to move up in the draft process. The thought of the Vikings trading up for Drake Maye in the 2024 NFL Draft sounds intriguing.
