The Minnesota Vikings are on quickly becoming a trade with a bunch of trade rumors surrounding them. An 0-3 start to the season is not what many fans expected. If the Vikings continue to disappoint heading into the NFL trade deadline, they could be involved in a pretty significant trade.
As far as the Commanders go, they still feel as though they may be one quarterback away from being competitive in the NFC. Could a reunion with Kirk Cousins be what Washington needs?
The Minnesota Vikings Trade Quarterback Kirk Cousins To The Washington Commanders In Bold Trade Proposal
Matthew Schmidt of NFL Analysis highlighted how the Commanders could get their quarterback back from the Vikings:
While no legitimate rumors of trade discussions have surfaced, some feel that it is only a matter of time before the winless Vikings decide to field offers for their veteran signal-caller.
The New York Jets have been named the most likely landing spot in the event of a trade, and that’s no surprise considering they have been forced to roll with Zach Wilson under center following Aaron Rodgers‘ Week 1 injury.
We have also heard the Las Vegas Raiders mentioned as a potential destination, as Jimmy Garoppolo has not lived up to expectations through the first three weeks of the season.
But why is no one mentioned the Washington Commanders?
Of course, Kirk Cousins started his NFL career with the Washington franchise, first serving as Robert Griffin III’s back up from 2012 through 2014 before becoming the club’s full-time starter in his fourth season. Cousins started three years at quarterback for Washington, earning a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2016. He then departed for the Vikings in free agency in March 2018.
After going 11-0 in one-score affairs in a charmed voyage to the NFC North throne in 2022, the Minnesota Vikings are 0-3 after Sunday’s crushing defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers. Considering a sample size going back to the last expansion in 2002, there is now a 99% chance the Vikings won’t reach the playoffs.
Getting something in return for Kirk Cousins vice letting him walk in free agency for nothing might seem like the better option for the organization if they continue to disappoint leading up to the trade deadline on October 31st.
