The Michigan State football program is going through some big changes. New head coach Jonathan Smith is already creating roster turnover. With the transfer portal, players can move programs more easily than ever. Special teams standout Tyrell Henry has decided he will enter the transfer portal.

Michigan State Returner Tyrell Henry Enters Transfer Portal
In his first two seasons, Henry has seen limited play at the wide receiver position. He only has 24 catches for 195 yards and three touchdowns during his time in East Lansing. Most of his work has come as a returner. Henry has leveraged 17.1 yards per kick return and has also fielded punts for the team. The Spartans lose an ultra-athletic skill position player who still has two years of eligibility remaining.
Not Surprising Given The Situation
There are two things working against the Spartans right now. The first is the nature of college football. The transfer portal makes it easier than ever for players to move teams. More players are taking advantage of it every day. The second is the new head coach. Any time a program changes its head coach there is going to be some type of exodus of players. Recruiting is often heavily tied to the coach. Many of these players signed on to play for Mel Tucker and are now wanting a new opportunity.
There is nowhere to go but up for Michigan State. They will have to rebuild the roster and get back to being competitive in the Big Ten.
