Barring a complete miracle, the Texas Longhorns will hand the Michigan football program their first season loss. On Saturday, Michigan hosted Texas at the Big House in Ann Arbor, but they trail 24-3 after two quarters. The Michigan Wolverines last lost a regular season game in 2021 and haven’t lost at home since 2020.
The Wolverines enter the locker room at halftime with just 88 yards of offense. Meanwhile, UT had 279 yards of offense. With Michigan football fans unaccustomed to losing at home, much less getting blown out, many fans are furious over the performance the team displayed in the first 30 minutes.

Following a field goal early in the second quarter, Texas has rattled off 17 unanswered points. Heisman Trophy Award contender Quinn Ewers entered the half 18-of-26 for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Michigan football signal-caller Davis Warren went 8-of-11 for a lowly 49 yards and one interception. On a positive note, running back Donovan Edwards has rushed for 33 yards on six carries. Unfortunately, the game script could lead Michigan to have a pass-happy approach in the second half, neutralizing Edwards’ rushing prowess.
With a loss on Saturday, Michigan will suffer their first home loss since 2020. Outside the COVID-19-affected 2020 season, Michigan is in danger of suffering its worst non-Ohio State home loss since 2014 (30-14 loss to Minnesota). Despite being fresh off a title win in 2023, Michigan fans did not hide their frustration with the team’s performance in the first half of Saturday’s ranked matchup:

When you're playing a team that's better at football than you are, you're going to need to play mistake-free football to get an upset.
Michigan is not playing mistake-free football.
