With the NFL offseason underway, the Indianapolis Colts are trying to find their way back into the postseason as they lost a win-or-go-home Week 18 matchup against the Houston Texans. With a lot of injuries to key contributors, it should be viewed as a successful season. Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. was slated to be a free agent this offseason but the Colts franchise tagged him, locking him to a one-year deal.
However, that will not be the case as on Monday morning it was reported the Indianapolis Colts agreed to a three-year, $71.5 million contract with $46 million guaranteed, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. With Pittman having a different starting quarterback in each of his four seasons, this gives him the ability to get a rapport with quarterback Anthony Richardson for the future.
Michael Pittman Jr. played 16 games last season and finished with 109 receptions on 156 targets for 1,152 yards (10.6 yards per reception) and four touchdown catches. With Richardson in the fold for his sophomore season, this Colts team has an explosive offense without even factoring in running back Jonathan Taylor coming out of the backfield.
This should be an exciting day for the future of the Indianapolis Colts as they look to take control of the AFC South for the next few seasons.
Can the Indianapolis Colts win the AFC South in 2024?
FanDuel has provided the opening odds for NFL future bets and the AFC South odds are interesting as it seemingly will be a three-team race for the divisional crown. The Colts are third in the odds at +240 behind the Texans (+170) and Jaguars (+220). We still have all of free agency as well as the 2024 NFL draft to alter the board here but the hope is definitely there for the Indianapolis Colts.
The defense can only improve as they were 28th in the sport with 24.4 points per game but the offense emerged despite having massive injuries. The 2024 NFL season is one of excitement and do not be surprised if we see Michael Pittman Jr. continue to emerge as a legitimate top threat and the Colts playing in the AFC playoffs.
