As the NFL Draft inches closer, people are starting to focus on the young men vying for a spot in the National Football League. Michael Penix is one of the most talented players in the draft, but his health also makes him a risk for many NFL teams.
The Washington quarterback understands the doubt some organizations might have about his potential as an NFL player, but he’s asking them to give him a chance on the field.
Michael Penix hopes ACL tears won’t hurt his NFL Draft stock that much
Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk wrote about Michael Penix’s potential position in the upcoming NFL draft. One of the biggest talking points during their sit-down was his injury. However, the 6’3″, 218-lb gunslinger believes that his injury history shouldn’t hold significant weight over his high ceiling as a player.
Smith wrote:
Penix tore the ACL in his right knee twice during his college career, which raises some red flags about whether he’s going to stay healthy, but Penix told ESPN that he had a checkup with Dr. Neal S. ElAttrache, the renowned orthopedic surgeon, and that ElAttrache is telling NFL teams that the knee is not a concern.
“Some of that stuff I can’t control. I can tell them how I feel, I can show them how I feel, that’s all I can do at that point. I’ve got plenty of scans to show them, the doctor says I’m clear, nothing’s wrong, I don’t see why they would think I’m hurt, really. I can just show them what I can do,” Penix said.
Michael Penix is a talented player, and he’s shown with his performance during his final year with the Huskies that he’s more than deserving of a top draft selection.
He finished the season with 4903 passing yards and 36 touchdowns on a 157.1 passing rating. He also led Washington to a College Football Playoff Championship, where his team fell short to the Michigan Wolverines.
Should any team look past his injury history and select him, they’ll be getting a hungry signal caller who’s eager to prove his doubters wrong with his on-field performance.
