A late 2023 Florida lawsuit that alleges a Miami Dolphins player gave his then-girlfriend genital herpes without telling her he had the virus, which is similar to claims made against Miami Dolphins defensive back Xavien Howard in 2022.
The plaintiff claimed they both underwent the necessary tests for sexually transmitted infections (STI) after she noticed signs of infection on the Miami Dolphins player in question. The lawsuit claims that both of them tested positive for genital and oral herpes.
The Miami Dolphins player’s identity was attempted to be redacted by the Florida court. The method of redaction, which was the covering of names with black boxes, was easily seen through with a simple copy/paste of the contents. The Miami New Times refused to release the identities to respect their privacy.
The case is still pending on the court docket, but it is not actively being litigated, according to the Miami New Times. The reason for the halt in litigation was not specified.
Miami Dolphins defensive back Xavien Howard had similar claims come out against him in 2022
Miami Dolphins defensive back Xavien Howard was the subject of similar claims in 2022. The plaintiff at the time alleged Howard knew of his herpes status and did not tell her before they had intercourse. ESPN gave a brief overview of the woman’s claims in the October 2022 lawsuit.
“The lawsuit states Doe and Howard met in February 2018, when Howard asked her on a date and provided a copy of the negative results of a recent STD test. It alleges Howard contracted the STD the following year and failed to inform Doe and continued a sexual relationship with her.
“The woman says she tested positive for the STD in March 2021 and identified Howard as the ‘only individual who could have transmitted’ it to her. The lawsuit alleges Howard initially denied Doe’s accusations but ultimately admitted to knowing he had the STD and apologized.”
The woman eventually dropped the lawsuit and Howard’s attorney said the allegations were completely fabricated in the Miami New Times article.
“Xavien Howard never had genital herpes in the first place; the entire basis of her lawsuit was a literal impossibility,” attorney Brad Sohn said on behalf of Howard at the time. “His accuser nevertheless lobbed out defamatory, absurd, and knowingly false claims, as one of several (unsuccessful) attempts to extort money from him.”
Xavien Howard and his attorney did not run into the same online court document redaction issues as the case was filed anonymously.
NFL fans are shocked that this is happening to the Miami Dolphins again after Xavien Howard already went through this in 2022
NFL fans are shocked that this is happening to the Miami Dolphins once again. Many attribute the nature of the lawsuit to the nature of the city of Miami, while others are making baseless speculations about who the player may be.

It is the second time in a 16-month span that a Miami Dolphins player was accused of giving someone an STI without disclosing the fact that they were infected. The result of the more recent case remains unknown.
