REPORT: The Miami Dolphins Running Back Agreed to a Pay Cut, Retaining him for the 2024 Season

The Miami Dolphins had one of the best-rushing offenses in the NFL last season, ranking 6th in yards, 3rd in touchdowns, and 1st in yards per attempt.

Their third-string running back was set to be a cap casualty this offseason, but both parties agreed to a pay cut.

According to Barry Jackson, Miami reworked the contract of Jeff Wilson Jr. by lowering his base salary from $2.6 million to $1.12 million and his cap number from $3.67 million to $2.357 million, freeing up $1.3 million in cap space.

He also received $400,000 guaranteed, plus workout and roster bonuses and $550,000 in incentives.

Wilson will be an unrestricted free agent in 2025.

San Franciso traded Wilson to Miami for a 2023 fifth-round draft pick.

Wilson played in eight games, starting once with Miami in 2022, and had 84 carries for 392 yards (3 TDS) and 12 receptions on 24 targets for 94 yards (1 TD). He also had ten carries for 23 yards (1 TD) and one reception on four targets for 13 yards in the Wild Card.

Wilson signed a 2-year, $6 million contract extension during the 2023 offseason.

Wilson had a disappointing 2023 campaign because he battled injuries and fell out of the rotation because of how well Raheem Mostert was playing and the emergence of De’Von Achane.

Wilson missed the first six games because of a rib injury and finger issue and Week 11 because of a coach’s decision.

He returned to the lineup in Week 7 but wasn’t effective and saw limited playing time, representing only 13.48% of offensive snaps. He had 41 carries for 188 yards and 14 receptions on 17 targets for 85 yards. He also had one reception on two targets for six yards in the Wild Card.

The Miami Dolphins have a loaded running-back room in 2024

Miami will have a loaded running back room next season, led by Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane, Jeff Wilson Jr., Salvon Ahmed, and Chris Brooks.

Where will they rank in rushing next season, and how many running backs do they keep next season?
