At this point in time, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. hasn’t played a significant game for the Miami Dolphins this season, particularly since he has been dealing with an injury lately. Rather than keep him down the line, an NFL analysis has suggested trading the three-time Pro Bowler instead.
Just recently, Beckham participated fully in practice, marking a positive step in his recovery from a knee injury. Listed on the Week 5 injury report, his return to full participation comes after he was initially placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list at the beginning of the 2024 season.
His 21-day practice window has now opened, and he could potentially make his debut against the New England Patriots this Sunday. Meanwhile, teammates Braxton Berrios and Malik Washington were limited in practice due to their own injuries.
Despite Beckham’s talent and past success, including three Pro Bowl selections and a notable 2023 season with 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns, his presence on the field hasn’t translated well for Miami. The Dolphins’ offense has struggled recently, especially with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa currently on Injured Reserve. If Beckham is activated, he will be competing for playing time primarily behind star receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Miami Dolphins Implored To Trade Odell Beckham Jr. in NFL Analysis
As it stands, the Dolphins aren’t doing so well, especially after Tagovailoa went out with a concussion. Rather than keep him on the roster, Nick Villano’s NFL analysis for Fansided suggested he could do better with a contender.
“However, we don’t think it will get to “trade” territory. So, we went for another superstar receiver who hasn’t even suited up for the Dolphins yet. Odell Beckham Jr. signed with Miami this offseason to be the team’s third option. He hasn’t even caught a pass from Tagovailoa yet.
He’s coming back to Skyler Thompson and Tyler Huntley throwing him balls, whenever he does come back. Word on the street is that the Dolphins plan to open his practice window this week. If that’s true, and he returns sooner rather than later, then Beckham could showcase his ability to teams looking to make a trade.
Beckham has been traded midseason and helped a team win a Super Bowl in the past. He did it for the Rams, even though he suffered a major knee injury in that game. Now, a few years later, he could do it again,” Villano wrote.
Beckham joined the Dolphins on a one-year contract valued at up to $8.25 million during the offseason. The three-time Pro Bowler was projected to revive his career as the team’s number three receiver, playing alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
If ever he’s traded by the Dolphins before the deadline, it’ll be because the team is doing well with their wide receivers and get a useful player in return. In any case, Miami fans should keep an eye out on whether Beckham can go past the deadline next month or not.
