The Kansas City Chiefs will be without a star wide receiver for at least their next four games. The Chiefs are preparing to play the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.
The Kansas City Chiefs overhauled their WR room
The Chiefs had poor receiver play last year in the regular season. The Chiefs overhauled their receiver room in the offseason, adding Marquise Brown in free agency and depth threat Xavier Worthy in the first round of the draft.
Chiefs receivers looked better than they were last season in Kansas City’s Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Rahsee Rice caught seven passes for 103 yards. Worthy caught two passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. Worthy also had a 21-yard rushing touchdown in his league debut last Thursday.
The Chiefs were without their No. 1 wide receiver against the Ravens. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was briefly hospitalized following a shoulder injury in the Chiefs’ first preseason game in August. He did not play again in the preseason.
Brown will be out for a while.
Marquise Brown was placed on injured reserve
According to Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs placed Brown on injured reserve on Friday before he undergoes surgery:
“The #Chiefs are placing WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on IR, and he will undergo surgery to repair his dislocated SC joint. After multiple imaging studies, it was determined that, although Hollywood felt better, his injury was not healing correctly. Without corrective surgery, he would risk a more serious long-term injury.
The surgery is scheduled for Monday with Dr. Peter Millett in Vail, CO, and the Chiefs will monitor his rehab progress throughout the season.”
Brown signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs for the 2024 season worth $7 million. Brown wanted a chance to help the Chiefs earn a threepeat this winter. Brown will miss significant time in the regular season, but there’s hope he can return for the postseason run.
Who do the Chiefs have at wide receiver without Brown?
The Chiefs have receivers Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore, Mecole Hardman, Rice, and Brown on the 53-man roster. Reicvers Montrell Washington, Justyn Ross, and Nikko Remigo are on the practice squad.
