The Kansas City Chiefs expect to be without their No. 1 wide receiver for several weeks following an injury they suffered during Saturday night’s preseason game. The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Chiefs 26-13 in the first preseason game for both teams.
Marquise Brown sustained an injury Saturday night
As previously discussed on GH, Marquise Brown had to leave the game after he sustained a shoulder injury. Chiefs fans weren’t happy Brown was in the game:
Chiefs and their fans will hold their breaths after star wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown went down with a shoulder injury early in the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hollywood Brown suffered the shoulder injury following an eleven-yard reception on the first play from scrimmage. Chiefs fans were furious over the potential long-term loss of Brown, specifically with the injury coming in the preseason opener.
Head coach Andy Reid chooses to play his starters early in the preseason, so they are ready to play in Week 1 of the regular season. That could cost them Brown for the early part of the regular season. That could be a problem for a team that could lose another wide receiver for part of the regular season for off-the-field issues.
The Kansas City Chiefs expect Brown to miss several weeks
According to Ari Meirov with the 33rd Team, Reid explained Brown’s injury and compared it to an injury that kept Tyreek Hill out for four games in a previous season:
Hollywood Brown suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation tonight against the Jaguars and is currently in the hospital. HC Andy Reid compared it to Tyreek Hill’s shoulder injury from 2019, which caused him to miss four games.
Why Brown was hospitalized
Stephania Bell of ESPN provided more info on the nature of Brown’s injury:
SC (sternoclavicular) joint (where sternum or chest meets clavicle or collarbone) dislocation can be very dangerous (esp if displaces posteriorly, towards critical blood vessels). As a result, has to be reduced (re-positioned properly) in hospital with proper visualization.
Then time required for ligaments to heal, render joint stable again, typically multiple weeks. This is one of those injuries where proper medical assessment immediately is essential. Credit to Chiefs medical staff.
The good news is that Brown’s injury won’t end his season. However, it could keep him out for some games in September.
Unless Brown can heal faster than Hill did in 2019.
