The Carolina Panthers revealed a disappointing development for the defense ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. The Panthers will need their stout defense to keep the team in games while rookie quarterback Bryce Young learns the ropes in his first season in the NFL.

The Panthers’ defense lost a key piece of depth at pass rusher for the month. According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Panthers placed outside linebacker Marquis Haynes Sr. on injured reserve due to a back injury.

Hanyes would have been a massive help off the bench for the Panthers against the Falcons. Haynes is coming off a career-high five sacks last season with the Panthers for the 2022 season. He was credited with 29 total tackles, 12 stops, and 26 total pressures last season.
