The New England Patriots made one major announcement regarding their quarterback situation for their game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. This week, the Patriots have been quiet about who their starting quarterback will be against the Chargers.
Bailey Zappe is expected to start against the Chargers, with Mac Jones being benched after his poor play this season. The Patriots added another option at quarterback for the game.

According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, Malik Cunningham has been elevated to the Patriots’ active roster from the practice squad.

Per Jeff Howe with The Athletic, the Patriots have a set of plays for Cunningham. The Patriots have no plans to use Jones.

The 2-9 Patriots hope to find a quarterback to step up for the rest of the season. The Patriots will likely be in a position to take a quarterback in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. But no quarterback on the roster has shown they can even be a viable backup.
