    Dolphins Sign Alexander For Depth

Miami needed another cornerback after Trill Williams tore his ACL making a tackle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Dolphins invited Mackenzie Alexander to workout, and on Monday Alexander signed to provide depth in their secondary.

A second round pick, 54th overall in 2016, started 25 of 84 games between the Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals. He intercepted three passes between the two teams. Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel said of Alexander “The versatility [of him being able to play] inside and outside is nice for us. Everyone knows where he’s had his production.” McDaniel also stated the team had interest in signing Alexander before Williams injury.

    Byron Jones Injury Update

Mcdaniel also updated where Byron Jones was in his recovery from ankle and achilles injuries. Jones has been on the physically unable to perform list since the start of camp. According to McDaniel there have been no setbacks for Jones.

“Things have to hit on all cylinders without a setback for that to be the case,” McDaniel said of Jones being available for the Sept. 11 opener against New England. “Nothing has changed in that regard… The timeline for him is a little shorter based on his production on the NFL level.”

    Miami Adds Nose Tackle Scott

Miami also added nose tackle Niles Scott Monday. Scott, like was signed for depth along the offensive line. Scott played six game with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018. He has also been on the practice squad of five other teams.

The signings of Alexander and Scott come after an offseason of Miami’s signings mostly addressing the offense. Before Monday the teams biggest defensive signing was Melvin Ingram. With the Alexander and Scott pick ups the Dolphins hope to be able to weather an injury on defense to someone like Jones.
