The Los Angeles Rams have one of the youngest defenses in the NFL. The group is full of undrafted rookies as the team does not have a lot of money to throw around. However, they made a massive move today in signing veteran safety John Johnson to help the defense in 2023.
Los Angeles Rams Sign John Johnson
Johnson spent four years with the Rams before heading to the Cleveland Browns on a massive deal. He did not have a lot of success in Cleveland due to a lot of changes on the defensive coaching rosters. At 27 years old, he is eager to prove that he can still be an elite safety in the league. He comes to the Rams on a one-year deal meaning he can hit free agency next year and try and get a more lucrative deal. Johnson will have no shortage of playing time and will have ample opportunity to get some good tape for teams to see.
How Good Can The Rams Be?
There is a lot of pressure on Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Aaron Donald this year. Kupp is already dealing with an injury which leaves a huge hole in the roster. The team is going to need some of the undrafted rookies to hit. Having a player like Johnson on the back end will be very helpful. Hopefully, he can help coach up and direct the younger players and have them play at a higher level. Even so, the Rams will likely be picking in the top five next year.
The Los Angeles Rams and John Johnson are hoping for a mutually beneficial season. Johnson is hoping to get another great contract and the Rams are looking to not completely stink.
